Mazda Premacy Hydrogen Hybrid
By Rob Safuto on Jan 21, 2008 in Video
There was a lot of buzz around clean vehicles at the latest auto show in Detroit. In addition to the many electric hybrid vehicles we are now seeing in the market there is also a class of hydrogen based hybrid vehicles as well. Hydrogen hybrids are primarily powered by hydrogen with a gas engine as a backup.
The following video gives a preview and explains the technology of the Mazda Premacy, a hydrogen-hybrid mini-van.
This vehicle is scheduled for production in 2009. You can also find a photo gallery of the Mazda Premacy here.

My parents saw a hydrogen hybrid van on I10 in Florida today. Are there some of these Mazda Premacies out there? If so were could we get more info? My parents don’t have internet access. Thanks

There aren’t very many hydrogen hybrids out there. The ones that people see are most likely prototypes.
The earliest any of these types of vehicles will be available for purchase is late 2009. Even then there is an issue of fuel. You can’t just fill up on Hydrogen at the local gas station like you can with gasoline.
