Challenges For Clean Energy Projects
By Rob Safuto on Dec 10, 2007 in Analysis
If you take a look at the the news you still find quite a bit of news that heralds the opposition of clean power projects. Some of the concerns are legitimate. Others are simply not in my backyard (nimby) rants. Here are some that I’ve seen recently.
Taking Aim At Indian Point - The Governor and Attorney General from New York team up to oppose the relicensing of the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant.
Wind farm plan dropped; Gillespie residents cheer decision - NRG will not be building a wind farm in the hill country in Texas.
Efforts to Harvest Ocean’s Energy Open New Debate Front - Fisherman and environmentalists worry about the impact of wave powered generation.
Residents Voice Opposition To Wind Farm - Locals in Pennsylvania worry about the bats and the animals.
There are certainly positives and negatives to every project, even ones that produce little or no greenhouse gases. Where do we draw the line of reason? Are $100 a barrel oil, weakened national security and skies choked with harmful gases not enough for us to warm to the idea of drastic change?
If not now, when?
