Low Ethanol Prices a Boon for Consumers, a Bane for Producers “A glut in ethanol production caused prices for the renewable fuel to drop from August to October, although the prices started to rebound in September. According to VeraSun Energy Corporation, the price for a gallon of ethanol dropped by nearly 50 cents from the beginning of August to the end of September.”
Major Switch For Solar Energy “In a small physics lab on the uptown campus of the University at Albany, researchers are trying to develop a new type of solar-electric cell that will be cheaper — and more flexible — than a traditional solar cell made from silicon.”
Morgan Stanley Throws Money At The Sun “SunPower said Morgan Stanley agreed to provide the company with up to $190 million in financing for future commercial and public agency solar electric power installations.”
MIT Clean Energy Entrepreneurship Prize Established “The MIT Clean Energy Entrepreneurship Prize of $200,000 is being announced today, kicking off a program to help develop and motivate the next generation of energy entrepreneurs. This nationwide competition is sponsored by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, NSTAR Electric & Gas Corporation and the United States Department of Energy (US DOE).”
